my grief journey

From Loss to Light

In April 2022, my world changed forever. I lost my precious son, Azan. In the early days of grief, everything felt overwhelming from making decisions about his resting place to trying to understand traditions and logistics when my heart could barely take a single breath.

Just months later, I also lost my father. The weight of grief, one loss layered on top of another, felt unbearable.

In the midst of that pain, I began to realize how deeply people need spaces where grief can be acknowledged, supported, and held with compassion. I didn’t want anyone else to feel as alone or unsupported as I did during those first difficult days.

That realization became the beginning of Light of Grief.

What started as a late-night conversation with my sister grew into a nonprofit rooted in care, community, and service. Our mission is to create gentle spaces for individuals and families navigating grief, loss, and life transitions.

Today, Light of Grief offers healing-centered gatherings including sound baths, movement, reflection circles, and creative workshops where people can come together in community and feel less alone in their healing journey.

We are also building resources for children and families, connecting individuals with supportive tools, and creating meaningful ways to honor loved ones through acts of remembrance and service.

Light of Grief has Muslim roots, but our community is open to everyone. Grief does not belong to one religion, culture, or background. Whether you are grieving the loss of a loved one, navigating a life transition, or carrying a quieter form of loss, you deserve support.

My hope is that Light of Grief continues to grow into a nurturing community where people feel safe to share, reflect, and heal together.

Even in the darkest seasons, light can still be found especially when we walk through grief together.

Azan’s light continues to guide the mission of Light of Grief.

"This morning I went to an event led by Light of Grief. It was a Tea Ceremony hosted by Nativ Healing. Before I entered, I had my guard up and carried my shoulders high, almost up to my ears. That was my way of coping. Deep down, I knew this was the moment I needed to begin healing..."
Sherry

Nadia's grief journey

Hope is Always within Reach

Losing someone you love changes you forever. When I lost my dad on November 1, 2022, my world felt shattered. Grief is isolating, overwhelming, and unpredictable, and in those early days, I struggled to find a way forward. I know firsthand how loss can make you feel stuck in a place of pain, searching for hope but unsure where to find it.

That’s why I am so passionate about the mission of our organization empowering others to heal and find hope after loss. No one should have to navigate grief alone. Healing doesn’t mean forgetting; it means learning to carry the love forward while finding ways to live again. Through support, community, and resources, we help others take steps toward healing at their own pace, knowing they are not alone in their journey.

Grief is a lifelong journey, but hope is always within reach. By sharing my story and dedicating myself to this work, I want to remind others that even in the darkest moments, healing is possible. Together, we can create a space where loss is acknowledged, love is honored, and hope is restored.
